The suffice (R, N, Q or M) for PSL2 grades, belongs to the steel grade
ANSI / API 5L specifies the manufacture of two product levels (PSL1 and PSL2) of seamless and welded steel pipe for the use of a pipeline in the transportation of petroleum and natural gas. For material use in a sour service application, refer to Annex H; for offshore service application, refer to Annex J of API 5L 45th Edition.
Process
Ingots, blooms, billets, coils or plates used for the manufacture of pipe shall be made via basic oxygen, electric furnace or open hearth in combination with a ladle refining process. For PSL2, the steel shall be killed and melted according to a fine grain practice. Coil or plate used for PSL2 pipe shall not contain any repair welds.

What is the difference between A106 Grade B and C?
A106B vs A106C vs A53B article – Tioga Pipe
What then are the differences between A106 grades B and C? The maximum allowable carbon content is higher in Grade C; which can result in higher mechanical properties due to this increased carbon content.
What is API 5L grade L450?
API 5L Grade L450 Carbon Steel Seamless Pipes – Ferropipe
API 5L Grade L450 is standard specification for dimensions, material and technical delivery conditions of seamless and welded steel pipe, mainly used for pipelines. This is steel pipe for pipeline transportation systems in the petroleum and natural gas industries. API 5L is suitable for conveying gas, water, and oil.
What is ASTM A106 Grade B used for?
ASTM A106 Grade B is a mild steel pipe material usually used in industrial plants, power plants, power plants, refineries, and chemical plants. ASTM A106 GR. B Carbon Steel Seamless pipes must be solution annealed according to the heat treatment part to restore the ferrite. ASTM A106 GR.

What is the difference between API 5L X42 and X52?
The difference between an X42 and an X52 pipe is that the X42 pipe has a lower minimum yield strength than the X52 pipe. Grades covered by API 5L standards are A25, A, B and “X” Grades such as X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, X80 and so on).
What is the difference between A106 GR B and A53?
In few words, the main difference between A53 vs. A106 pipes is that A53 pipes are used for low/medium temperature and pressure applications, whereas ASTM A106 pipes are used for higher temperatures-pressures and when seamless execution is mandatory.
What is the difference between API 5L Grade B and API 5L X42?
API 5L X42 Steel Pipe Specification in PSL1, PSL2 and Sour …
API 5L X42 Min Yield Strength is 42100 Psi, 290 Mpa (As we called L290), Tensile Strength is the same with API 5L B 60200 Psi, 415 Mpa , Min Elongation: 21%. So compared to API 5L B steel line pipe, API 5L X42 steel pipe tensile strength is higher 6600 Psi, 45 Mpa.
What is the difference between API 5L and A53?

What is the difference between API 5L Grade B and X52?
API 5L Grade X52 pipes have superior mechanical strength with a minimum yield strength of about 360 MPA. These grade pipes are superior to API 5L Grade B, API 5L Grade X42 and API 5L Grade X46 pipe concerning chemical and mechanical properties.
What is API 5L pipe used for?
API Line Pipe is steel pipe used for the transmission of Oil, Gas and Petroleum Distillates.
Stainless Steel vs Carbon Steel Pipes: Which is Right for Your Application??
Stainless steel or carbon steel? It is a question many plants, engineers, designers and other industry workers face at some point. Stainless and carbon steel pipes are both good choices for a variety of uses, so it may be hard to know which one is right. By getting down to the basics of what steel is and how it’s used, you should be able to better determine which will fit your needs.
You know that steel is a metal, for sure. You are aware that steel has many uses, and is found in so much of today’s fabricated world. However, even if you work with steel every day, it is possible that you have never stopped to consider what steel actually is. What is it made of? What makes steel different from other metals? And why are there so many types of steel?
What Is Steel?
Steel is a kind of metal called an alloy. An alloy is two or more kinds of natural metals that are melded together to make a new, unique metal. When we talk about steel, we are talking about a kind of metal alloy that is a mixture of iron and at least one other metal. Many types of steel have several metals in the mix, though how much is in there (that is, the concentration) may differ. Steels are classified by what kind of metals are in it and what kind of properties it has.
Carbon Steel
Carbon steel is a basic steel that is a combination of iron and carbon. It may contain other substances in trace or unmeasured amounts. Carbon steel is classified by how much carbon content is mixed in with the iron. A low-to-mid carbon steel will have less than 0.3% carbon, while a high carbon would contain up to 2%. Carbon steel is known for its strength and its ability to withstand very high temperatures.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is created by adding chromium to the alloy. While basic carbon steel may only contain up to 2% carbon, stainless steel has at least 10% chromium content. As with carbon steel, other elements may be present in stainless steel in unmeasured amounts. The most significant characteristic of stainless steel is that is doesn’t rust or corrode. Avoiding corrosion is a unique property for steel to have. Steel is mostly made of iron and iron tends to rust very quickly.
Other Types of Steel
There are many other types of steel, all with a variety of alloying elements (other metals in the mix). How the metals are heated and handled while they are being manufactured also determine a steel type and the properties it will have. Other elements found in steel could be tungsten, cobalt, nickel, lead and molybdenum.
