EN10217-1 ERW Transmission Steel Tubes For Pressure Purposes
July 12, 2017ASTM A139 LSAW Structural pipes and pile pipes for low pressure liquid delivery
August 3, 2017This Standard specifies requirements for the manufacture of two product specification levels (PSL1 and PSL2) of steel pipes for use in pipeline transportation systems in the petroleum and natural gas industries. This Standard is not applicable to cast pipe. The API 5L specification is generally more clear about the limits on dimensional deviations (end squareness, straightness of pipe, hockey-stick pipe, flared pipes), whereas the ASTM standards are more vague.
Carbon steel pipe grades include: ASTM A53 grades A and B; ASTM A106 B and C; API5L grade B; API5L X42, X52, X60 and other high yield grades. Low temperature carbon steel A333 grade 1/6 is also available.
API 5L does not have its own table of pipe dimensions. Rather, like the ASTM standards, it reverts to ASME B36.10 for the nominal pipe dimensions. Therefore, API 5L pipe products are often multi-certified to similar ASTM A53, A106 and A333 grades, where the requirements of all these specifications are met.
Testing Requirements for seamless steel pipe
Hydrostatic Testing test pressures for plain and threaded and coupled pipe are specified. Hydrostatic pressure shall be maintained for not less than 5 seconds for all sizes of seamless and ERW pipe.
Mechanical Tests:
Tensile Test: Two transverse tests required on the ERW for NPS 8 and larger, one across the weld and one opposite the weld.
Flattening Test: On ERW for NPS 2 and larger, STD and XS wall (not required for XXS pipe)
Bending Test (cold): For NPS 2 and under, XS wall and under; for NPS 1-1/4 and under, XXS wall
Variation of Carbon Seamless steel Pipeline
Wall thickness: The minimum wall thickness at any point shall not be more than 12.5% under the nominal wall thickness specified.
Weights per foot are plus or minus 10%
Outside diameter: Outside diameter at any point shall not vary from standard specified more than:
NPS | Over | Under |
---|---|---|
1-1/2 and smaller | +1/64” | -1/64” |
2 and larger | +1% | -1% |
